COURAGE FOR a LARGER LIFE - FULL MOON and RITUAL

Two FULL MOONS in a single MAY. A month that could not contain herself, that spilled over her own edge. Ripe fruit splitting skin, feeling too long held. Body insufficient and pushing through regardless. MAY has kept her light longer than she was supposed to. And here, at the very last a second MOON burning pink with something left to say and refusing to wait until JUNE to say it.

On May 31 the MOON rises full at 9 degrees SAGITTARIUS, and she rises on ANTARES one of the four great Royal Stars of the ancient sky, red and enormous and older than any mythology we have painted over it. The Babylonians called it the Creator of Prosperity. The Chinese, the Fire Star. The Persians named it a guardian, a marker of a season’s turning, a place in the sky where celestial attention gathered across centuries. To have the FULL MOON rise here, on this particular star, feels less like coincidence and more appointment. Whatever has been waiting for light is ready to be seen.

SAGITTARIUS lives in hips, in thighs, the architecture of forward stride. The sign of arrow already loosed, the moment after commitment and before landing. The part of human consciousness that needs to know what the everything means, what they are part of, what is worth believing when everything else is uncertain. Feel it. A restlessness. A pull somewhere tucked below the ribcage. The animal sense that something needs to move, or be released, or finally be named.

Opposite her, the SUN burns in GEMINI alongside URANUS, and there is a charge in that jolt. A window opens in a room closed too long. What this MOON illuminates may come sideways. A thought landing differently than it did before. A belief revised in the chest before the mind. GEMINI gathers. SAGITTARIUS finds the meaning buried inside the gathering. The tension between them is the mechanism of wisdom. Bow and string, inseparable, each made purposeful by the other.

JUPITER holds the whole of this lunation from CANCER, exalted, generous, open-handed. Offering the kind of faith that has moved through enough difficulty to trust that the horizon is real. Hot tears of relief.

This is a FULL MOON about the courage of a larger life. About the belief carried so long it has become invisible. It was true once, served something once, and became a ceiling. SAGITTARIUS is always asking the same essential question beneath all its other questions: do you trust enough to let the arrow go? Not when the conditions are right. Now, in the heat, with the red star burning the ground beneath bare feet. Sky nebulous and something in the chest that is so-far-done with waiting.

RITUAL FOR THE FULL MOON

Evening of May 30th or the early hours of May 31st.

Before going outside to find earth underfoot, write on a small piece of paper one belief ready to be outgrown. Not a habit, or behaviour, or this thing you do. Write the story underneath it. The one organising choices from somewhere below. I am the kind of person who... or this is how things work for me... Recognisable by how simultaneously true and slightly too small it feels. Something has already grown past it and is simply waiting for permission.

Bring a candle or what to build a tiny fire. SAGITTARIUS is fire, and this ritual asks for actual flame. Ancient technology for releasing.

Seek grass, soil, stone, sand, the edge of water if it is near. Somewhere the sky is visible and the night can be felt on the skin.

Stand on the ground. Let the MOON find the face. Let the warm night air do what it does. Read what was written aloud quietly if desired, but aloud. Then feed it to the flame. Stay until it is fully ash.

Then stretch your arms long overhead, spine reaching, the whole length of your physical body pulling toward the sky without effort, without thinking. Let ANTARES burn red up there in the dark, the ancient Watcher, the Creator of Prosperity, four thousand years of human sky-watching arriving at this one swollen, overripe, heat-soaked night at the end of MAY.

Stay outside a little longer than feels necessary. That extra time is the ritual too.

What loosens at this FULL MOON will have found its landing by the time SAGITTARIUS returns in late autumn. The arrow always does.
