I started studying aromatherapy when I was nineteen (how is this thirty-two years ago!), long before I had any real idea what I'd do with it. After Etta was born, we were living in Provence when our dear friend Katryn was struggling to sleep, so I made her the same spray I used for us. LAVENDER, organic CHAMOMILE, SWEET ORANGE and a drop of CLARY SAGE. Miles took it over to her. She was sitting in her kitchen with her friend of similar age ELSE, who asked if she could buy one. Miles came home to me and baby ETTA and said, why don't you make all the things you do to help people, properly, for everyone? I thought it was a terrible idea. I did it anyway. That is how Bohobo Aromatherapies began, and the very first thing I ever made to sell, the OG, the one that started all of this, was the SWEET SLEEP pillow mist.
Right now, with VATA swirling, the air turning dry, stages of life pressing sharply, and our minds struggling to settle for the night, there is nothing more comforting than a spritz of this on your pillow before sleep.
This is how it works. LAVENDER soothes first, settling the nervous system enough to let the rest of the blend in. SWEET ORANGE follows, easing anxiety and sweetening the whole experience, so the spray doesn't just calm you, it comforts you. CHAMOMILE cradles you the rest of the way, gentle enough to carry you past sleep and closer to transcendence. And then there is CLARY SAGE, the smallest drop in the whole blend and somehow the mightiest, the one that interrupts the negative looping before it can properly start, the list that spins itself out of nowhere the second your head hits the pillow: I can't sleep, how will I cope tomorrow, I'll only get four hours now. Clary sage doesn't argue with that voice. It breaks its rhythm.
This spray has been imitated more times than I can count, and I have feelings about that, but it has never once been replicated. We make SWEET SLEEP with intention, the same intention we started with, always have, always will, and intention isn't a line item you can lift off an ingredients list. You feel it as vibration in the mist itself, every time you spray it.
We now also make SWEET SLEEP as a ROLLER, the same blend in a gentle fractionated coconut oil base. Roll it onto the soles of your feet before bed, and your little ones' too. In AYURVEDA, the sole of the foot holds one of the body's key MARMA points, a place where energy sits close to the surface, so the oil absorbs slowly through the night rather than all at once, carrying LAVENDER, CLARY SAGE, CHAMOMILE and SWEET ORANGE into the whole system while you sleep.
You can shop the PILLOW MIST and the ROLLER separately, or together as the SLEEP BUNDLE, for ease and a little saving.
Sleeping well is the base life gets built on. When it goes, everything else gets so much harder to hold, and when it comes back, it's astonishing how much of yourself comes back with it. This spray is not a luxury. It is the ground floor. and it's still the one I reach for myself, all these years later.
