Remember being at the door when JUNE began? (read all about it in JUNE) Then light was already changing, there was a tight stillness of something about to begin? The NEW MOON in GEMINI this weekend is gust that swings the door open.
A NEW MOON is an absence that is also a beginning. The sky is ink blue withholding her light and that withholding creates the conditions for something to find its shape in the dark. The empty sky waits for what seeds itself in darkness grows differently than what seeds itself in light. It is a slower life-process, deeper, and more certain of its own direction. The NEW MOON doesn’t ask us to see where we are going, and in many ways we won’t recognise the leaf until it starts to grow. We tune into our intuition, and trust. This one is a SUPER NEW MOON. It is closest to the earth than any other NEW MOON the year, means that her gravitational pull will be felt physically and energetically. New beginnings are always available at a NEW MOON and this one is insisting on it.
GEMINI is the sign of mind, language, of the word that changes everything in sown communication. There is something of the MAGICIAN in this lunation. An archetypal figure standing at the table with all the tools laid out before them. One who understands that the act of naming, giving form through language and intention as a kind of conjuring. What we voice this week carries unusual weight. What we write, send, begin, propose, admit, declare, germinate with the vitality of a SUPER NEW MOON behind them. Sow deliberately.
MERCURY, who rules this lunation, moves through CANCER, drawing emotional intelligence into every act of communication. Asking that what is said be true MERCURY is gathering momentum, moving toward MARS in a sextile that sharpens courage and gives ideas legs. This is not the week for hesitation, or sending an email with the important sentence taken out. The energy of MERCURY and MARS together favours conviction.
VENUS has just stepped into LEO (lights and applause please) and is already in conversation with URANUS and NEPTUNE activating creative electricity and the inspiration for something to be made through you rather than by you. It is the creative orb lit, above us. The restructuring longer rhythms of collective life, and VENUS aspecting them picks up that charge and carries it into the personal. Old ways of creating, relating, and understanding our worth are being asked to be genuinely revised. What served the version of us that existed before this year is not necessarily what serves the one emerging from it (and SOLSTICE is in a breath). This is also the last NEW MOON before MERCURY stations retrograde on June 29th which is timing. That which needs to be said, started, launched, written, sent is now. The retrograde will offer gifts of review and deepening, but the initiating energy belongs to this fortnight (and if it isn’t out there there can be no review). So get it into the world without hesitation.
GEMINI teaches that flexibility is not weakness, that the willingness to shift perspective and find the way around the obstacle is not unnecessary compromise. If something is not working, there is another approach. If one door is closed, GEMINI already has its hand on the next door. Bring that quality to everything this week. Creatively, in communication, a project, relationship, and most importantly in the honour of the yourself and your becoming. Breathe. Feel the air fill your lungs. Reach your arms wide. Feel what lifts. Just do not lose sight of the ground.

RITUAL | NEW MOON IN GEMINI

Go outside as the sky darkens. Bring nothing except yourself and something to write with a pen in a pocket is enough. Stand still for a moment and simply listen. GEMINI is AIR and AIR carries sound. What can be heard from where you are standing? The wind in whatever is growing nearby. A bird finishing its last thought of the day. Traffic, voices, the soundscape of the place you are in. Let it all arrive without filtering it. The world is always speaking. The practice is learning to actually hear it.
Then find something small on the ground. A stone, a leaf, a seed case, a fragment of bark, anything that has been carried or dropped by the natural world and come to rest where you are standing. Hold it in your palm. Feel the weight of it (or the weightlessness). Notice its texture and temperature. Bring it all the way into the senses. This is your intention made physical.
Say, to the air, to the velvet sky, one thing you are ready to begin. One word is enough if that is all that is all you need, an Iliad is also allowed. Put the stone, leaf, or bud in your pocket and carry it in the coming days. When your hand finds it, let it be the reminder something has begun. Something is in motion. The and the universe has received it.
