THE WEEKLY SKY - Starlight in a basket

André Barbault spent his life reading the sky from the furthest possible distance. Not the distance of a single day, week, or season, but the distance of centuries. Slow turning of the outer planets and the civilisations that flower and collapse in the geometry of their meeting. He developed a way of measuring how concentrated or dispersed the sky was at any given moment. When the planets clustered and contracted, the world contracted with them. When they spread into harmonious relationship with one another, the collective field became available again. Expansion. Rebuilding. The slow jewel of what was forced underground. He believed that the outer planets correlate with how we understand ourselves and the world. When these planets cluster, human consciousness shrinks with them. Thinking becomes more fearful, scarce, isolated, more concerned with survival and control. When the planets spread into harmonious relationship, the collective mind and heart open simultaneously. The opposites Barbault names are the great divisions. The idea that the outer world is separate from the inner one. That reason and feeling are in opposition.

The configuration forming above us now creates a moment where those divisions soften. Where external and internal life stop pulling against each other and begin moving together. It becomes possible to be rational and spiritual simultaneously without one diminishing or creating oppositional meaning of the other. It’s not about transcending the humanness but inhabiting it more fully. Living at a higher vibration not by denying or escaping ordinary life but by bringing more of what is real in us into contact with it. The wonderment, the starlight, and it is this week in the inky sky.

Between July 19 and 22, four of the sky’s slowest and most powerful bodies arrive simultaneously at 4 degrees of four different signs making a series of sextiles, trines, and oppositions that on the zodiac wheel that make exactly what Barbault said. A basket, and JUPITER is the handle.

Outer planets speak to eras. Long chapters of collective life. And when four of them align in this extraordinary fashion, what shifts is the underlying rhythm of an age. We are not simply passing through an interesting astrological moment. We are standing at the place where one historical rhythm gives way to another. We feel it as atmosphere. A change in the light. A loosening in the chest. Sense before explanation, that the ground beneath our collective feet is different from what it was. After weeks of turning inward, this week moves us outward.

The BARBAULT BASKET asks us to tune into whatever is shifting and hold space for it. To align ourselves with the future that wants to create itself through us. Meaningful change begins as an inner shift before an outer reality, and this week the inner shift is available to anyone willing to feel into what is actually alive in them and what is not. What helps us feel complete and what has been slowly, imperceptibly draining us of our aliveness.

If you have planets or points near 4 degrees of any fire or air sign, LEO, GEMINI, ARIES, AQUARIUS, SAGITTARIUS, LIBRA, this configuration is speaking directly to you. Feel for where those degrees live in your life. That is where the door is opening.

On July 22, the SUN moves into LEO. LEO is the self in its most genuine and most sovereign expression. The self as a living creative force, as the irreplaceable spark that moves through each of us and through no one else. LEO season asks where our energy comes alive and where it dims. Where we are called to create freely and where seeking permission lingers. It is light-hearted and playful and deeply serious simultaneously, the way all landed self-expression is. Joy is the compass here. Inspiration is the guide. Follow them without justification.

And on July 23, the MERCURY retrograde that has been experienced chewing a clanger so sticky movement and thought completely halted, ends. Since late June mind has been glutionous below the surface, in the underground of feeling and stories we have been living inside without fully examining. In ancient astrology it was understood that a retrograde planet moves beneath the surface of things, plumbing the depths in search of what the conscious mind had not yet seen. As the retrograde ends the planet emerges, surfaces, and stands once again in the light.

What have you discovered in the weeks of looking backward? Truth that was previously beyond reach, is now available to be seen clearly. Integration begins without urgency, MERCURY moves slowly in its first days direct, but with the satisfaction of spitting the clanger out.

Weeks of inward turning have been preparing us for this. Now the basket rises. The season opens. Brush your teeth.

Barbault did not live to see the basket. Stand outside on the evenings of July 19, 20, 21. Look up. JUPITER is visible and its light this week phosphorescence asks what we are willing to become.
