EVENING CHANDRA BHEDANA
A quiet ritual for the moonsoaked hours to enhance our holistic wellbeing and connect with the cyclical nature of being.
As the day exhales into stillness, there is an easy soft ritual we can practice that uplifts our hearts and opens us to the skies—Chandra Bhedana, the lunar breath. A balm for our nervous system, this pranayama calls in the cooling qualities of the moon, gently guiding the mind from doing into being.
To begin, find a place where silence lingers—near an open window, beneath a tree, or simply in the hush of your own room. Sit with ease, spine gently lifted, heart open. Let the breath come as it is, without asking too much of it just yet.
THE PRACTICE
Close your right nostril with your right thumb.
Inhale slowly and deeply through the left nostril—the lunar channel, Ida Nadi. This is where the coolness flows, where calm resides.
At the top of the breath, gently close the left nostril with your ring finger and release the right nostril.
Exhale softly through the right side.
Then begin again: inhale left, exhale right.
Continue for 5 to 15 minutes, depending on what your body asks of you. Let the breath be unforced, like a lullaby gently sung.
THE BENEFITS
CHANDRA BHEDANA draws tides inward. It soothes heat and restlessness, pacifies PITTA (a quality that feeds itself particularly in moments of stress, the HEAT of SUMMER, and in PERI and MENOPAUSE), and cools the fire of overstimulation. This practice is a gentle descent into parasympathetic calm, preparing the body for rest and the heart for dreams. It can ease anxiety, reduce blood pressure, and welcome sleep in a way that feels like a soft blanket pulled over a weary soul.
This breath is not one of work, action, discipline, competition, or achievement. It is a whispered invitation to listen, to soften, and to return.
MARRY CHANDRA BHEDANA with the ASTROLOGICAL WEATHER - July 20, 2025
We’re currently under the tender waning light of the MOON, just days before the SUN moves into LEO bringing bold fire to the atmosphere. This can heighten nervous energy, inflammation, or emotional overexposure. URANUS is in GEMINI, stirring the mind and making sleep more elusive. The medicine now is to cool our systems, calm the chatter, and return to the HEART CENTRE (ruled by LEO)—not the ego.
I have chosen some essential oils to marry an evening CHANDRA BHEDANA ritual with the current astrological energy.
Essential Oils to Pair with Evening Chandra Bhedana
Vetiver
Earthy, grounding, deeply cooling. Vetiver soothes an overactive mind and anchors the spirit. In this Leo season, it helps draw energy down from the crown and calm the fire that lives behind the eyes.
Roman Chamomile
Moonlight soft, Roman Chamomile offers emotional regulation and sleep support. It eases worry and softens any internal battles stirred up by LEO’s intensity.
Sandalwood (Australian)
A sacred oil that aligns perfectly with lunar practices. Sandalwood opens the heart gently and helps connect with the subtler, meditative aspects of the breath. It complements the introspective pull of the waning moon.
Clary Sage
This oil encourages dreams and intuitive vision. With the Moon waning and preparing for a new cycle, Clary Sage helps in letting go and surrendering the mental noise stirred by Mars in Gemini.
Lavender (High Altitude or Maillette)
Lavender cools, calms, and harmonises beautifully with the slower rhythm of CHANDRA BHEDANA

CHANDRA BHEDANA and this aromatic blend offer an inner moonlit sanctuary. Let the heat soften, the mind quiet, and the breath carry you inward, back to the self that needs no performance—only presence. COMPLIMENT it with our CHAKRA BALANCING SPRAY or PITTA BLEND
